Precious Metal
Clay (PMC), is a modern material developed and produced by Mitsubishi Corp.
It comes in fine silver or gold. My pieces are made from the silver PMC which
is a combination of particles of .999 fine silver, water, and organic binder.
Each piece is hand formed using techniques similar to Polymer Clay. Once formed,
they are air dryed to the "leather hard" state to remove the moisture.
They are then fired in a 1650 degree kiln to burn off the organic binder and
any remaining moisture. After cooling and removing from the kiln I wire brush
them to remove the white coating familiar with unfinished silver. They can
be antiqued, burnished or left as is.The PMC lends itself well to complimenting
what is happening in the polymer millefiori cane work. I am able to tie the
two materials together to make a cohesive work of "wearable art",
which are truely "one of a kind".
